A hero must preserve harmony... at any cost.

Kudos to :iconiamcaptainman: for giving me this idea originally.
Surprising how one stray comment can lead to something like this. Then again, I'm pretty susceptible to inception... apparently...

Honestly, I do not think Celestia would do such a thing again, has already lost once his sister, she not will risk losing Luna a second time, it would make the impossible to save his sister and avoid banish it again, not to mention that now there are the Mane 6, they defeated Nightmare Rarity once, I can defeat Nightmare Moon again without banish her to the moon again.

But if Celestia is willing to banish again Luna on the moon only to ensure another 1000 years of peace, then it proves to be an unfeeling tyrant towards his loved ones, and for this she would deserve the guillotine.

Tell princess what risk empire to test her student and never bother to help and protect heroes from danger, she may not be element of harmony any longer, but she have power what heroes do not and yet she do not use it any longer, Celestia is not a hero in my book and will not be unless she start to use her power to protect her subjects.

The Vulcan was only right because the few was him. Celestia forced the sacrifice on another, who was confirmed to have been an innocent. If anything, Luna is a hero for giving up everything to hold off the possession.

There is only one situation where Celestia can walk away from this as an innocent. If Luna was begging for the banishment to avoid hurting her friends (we know she was possessed) and Celestia's "reasoning with her" was actually hesitation to banish her, then she is not a monster, but an agent of mercy.

There is still the question of the ruins where Luna's throne was, however. If this was true, the forest would not exist, and the ruins would only be another part of Equestria. After all, an agent of mercy could never let the ponies there die. We can conclude that it was destroyed in the conflict. Luna would never destroy her own castle. Even in Celestia's side of the story, Luna cared too much about herself to do so. We have two possibilities. Either that was a hole in the story and Nightmare Moon destroyed it to make the real Luna more submissive, or Celestia destroyed the entire place as punishment and Everfree is actually the result of a fatal surge of magic.

We also know Celestia never actually apologized for what happened, as anyone with even the slightest hint of remorse would do.Even if she had no choice, she would still have apologized if she meant well. Either she is too proud to admit it, or the tears are all an act.

Besides, Celestia is confirmed to be weaker then Nightmare Moon was. This sure has to have some reason. History is written by the victors. We can not clearly confirm that eternal night would be a bad thing in Equestria as Equestria doesn't follow the same rules like our world.

Also, Celestia was sudenly able to wield ALL of the 6 elements while she used them with her sister together before. One possible explanation is that Luna passed those powers on to Celestia so she CAN win.

After all we know Celestia was everything but a hero. She played with ponies like with figures on a board game for reasons nobody understands. Even her own sister was in doubt whether it was a wise decision to send Twilight Sparkle and her friends to the Crystal Empire instead of just going there herself or sending Luna. If you think about her reaction both of them would probably easily beat Sombra once again. After all she tested Twilight Sparkle to make her an alicorn, which was actually HER plan for her, not Twilights will.

PS: I am no Celestia-Hater. I really like her. And I tend to see her as "victim of destiny", but not as a hero. And I bet she wouldn't banish Luna again.

-_- She only wanted eternal night, nowhere does it say that she wanted or tried to 'end all life on the planet'. Living in a world with no sun is far from lethal, and considering they still have magic I'm sure they would have found sufficient ways to keep themselves warm.
And that last bit, where she would have 'cast her broken body onto the moon without hesitation'?, It's like she doesn't even give a damn that her sister's probably dying inside.

...

Living in a world without sun if far from lethal?

.... Okay. Allow me to educate you.

Plants get the energy they need to survive via a process called photosynthesis, and a major part of this process is sunlight. Moonlight is simply not powerful enough for plants to use for the photosynthesis.

If sunlight is taken away, not only will the world be locked in an eternal winter as they have no warmth, but all the plants will eventually die because they can't photosynthesize. No plants means no food for the herbivores so they all starve to death, and then there is no food for carnivores after they've ate all the herbivores dead bodies, so they starve to death as well.

In short. Eternal night = DEATH

Listen, save your attitude and don't type/talk to me like I'm some backwoods moron. I'm well aware of everything you just wrote.
I typed my comment with SOLELY the ponyies in mind. Now drop your attitude and jump with me into the realm of imagination.
Unicorns.
The show's expanded only so much on them, so let's assume that some have the ability to create a little light. Why not some UV light? We saw an alicorn make two pony's fall in love. Twilight turned two animals into oranges in one episode(yes I'm aware it was kinda half way, but lets say she's been practicing alright?) They could, I don't know, enchant a pipe or some stick(who cares what it really is) to emit that same UV light. And why not? Twilight enchanted Tank's little helicopter to spin continuously, so we're to assume that a unicorn doesn't need to constantly use their magic on something themselves.

Sure things will still be pretty sucky for the rest of the world, namely the Everfree forest, but predators aren't a big thing to the ponies. Hell, I'm sure a majority of them would be happy at the death of the timber wolves and cockatrice. The pegasi can still make it rain and control the seasons, so why can't they just skip winter? Desperate times call for desperate measures. And it'll be cold as hell without winter anyway.

Yes some ponies will die, it's pretty much the Apocalypse without the sun so that's a given. Really the only true threat in my mind are the Griffons getting peckish. Hello Pony/Griffon Armageddon.

There's obviously a lot more I could cover, but I've written FAR more than I expected already.

An Apocalypse/Armageddon is still an Apocalypse/Armageddon.

You agreed that without the sun, its gonna be a the Apocalypse. So Nightmare Moon - maybe not intentionally - was attempting to kill everybody in the world.

Yet you stay that people should sympthazie with the pony that attempted to perform mass-genocide over the pony that stopped her?

I'm sympathizing with her loneliness and jealousy, and disliking Celestia's previous nonchalance or possible ignorance to her pain. I'm not saying what she did was right, only that if it had happened I believe it would be possible for ponies to continue living, if only a few for a while.
The way the comic portrayed Celestia, I got the intention that she was not helping her sister through this pain(after she was beaten by the elements of harmony for the second time).
I understand you argument but the whole thing just seems cruel to me, on both ends.

I liked this very much. I don't entirely agree, but it is thoughtful and well crafted. That being said, given the recent events of the series, the first panels reference to being a symbol of Harmony and the brightest star (yes I know the sun is one, still) made me assume it would be Twilight's monologue.

Well yes, but Superman could fly around the planet and fix things. Not to mention I'd imagine that Celestia's power is solar-based, so she'd effectively heal Superman.

He doesn't have any natural resistance to magic like he does with physical punishment, but it'd still be like trying to kill someone with the Medic's medigun.

Luna, or, maybe, Twilight, could handle him simply by overwhelming him with enough magic faster than he can heal, even during the day. If there's nothing to heal from, it's pretty hard to heal. Until he becomes a functional god later in the series.

Pretty sure her power is simply magic-based. It's not as if she has to blast solar radiation at him. Remember, she was able to raise both sun AND moon (plus stars, apparently) and she's been shown using Sombra's dark magic. She's no one-trick pony.

Lets see, a being who controls the Sun...versus a being that absorbs energy from the Sun.

Isnt that like a Gamma Monster fighting the Hulk?

That and the fact that Superman can punch with the force of a Supernova... I don't know.

Unless Celestia has some major magic she hasn't shown... or shes going down about as hard as Goku did.
